DUXBURY ? Stephen Brown kept Duxbury Post 223 bats baffled as he went the distance in an 8-1 complete-game victory for Orleans Post 223 in American Legion action on Thursday.
Brown allowed the one run in the first inning, but settled down and allowed six hits, three walks and striking out seven. Brown helped out his own cause, going 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI double.
Willy Boyd stood out for Orleans, going 2-for-4 with a single, triple, a run scored and two RBI. Teammate Will Shackelford went 1-for-3 with an RBI double.
Nick Taber produced for Post 308 as well, going 1-for-2 with a walk, double and two runs scored.
Tyler Nickerson also chipped in a double and scored two runs.
Orleans Post 308 (14-7) winds up their season today at Rockland.
FUTURES COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE
Seacoast 5, MV Sharks 4
OAK BLUFFS ? A four-run seventh inning propelled the Mavericks to their fourth straight victory, a 5-4 triumph over the first place Sharks.
Ryan Siegel (Mercyhurst) went 2-for-4 with his first homer of the season for MV (23-12) while Middleboro native Brett Holmgren (Endicott) was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
Joe Dunn pitched two hitless innings of relief for the Sharks.
BABE RUTH
Lower Cape 12-10, Sandwich 11-3
HARWICH ? Coming into the doubleheader, Lower Cape and Sandwich were tied at 10-1, but two victories by the Lower Cape broke the tie, as they hung up double-digit runs in both games.
In the first game, Lower Cape got out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first three innings.
John Vagenas led the way, going 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
Pat Collins also impressed for Lower Cape, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
For Sandwich, JB Rudowski stood out, putting in a 3-for-4 effort with a run scored.
In the second game, it was pitching that stood out for the Lower Cape, as Pat Collins earned the complete-game victory, allowing just two hits, no walks and striking out eight.
Once again Vagenas stood out, going 3-for-3 with three RBI, giving him a total of 6-for-6 on the day.
Matt Cook went 2-for-2 with two doubles and a walk.
Lower Cape is back in action on Sunday when they play a double header, hosting D-Y and Sandwich at Veterans Field in Chatham.
