Project Description:
This is a American University graduate program research proposal in need of editing. The majority of the paper is in the field of cultural psychology. Editor should be interested in the social sciences; either cultural psychology, anthropology, education or general quantitative research design.APPROXIMATELY 40 pages, double spaced. I am easy to work with and open to all editing suggestions leading to academic clarity and narrative quality. I will respond very quickly via email or text as needed in the process. I am attaching a short introduction.
Summary: This study will measure user performance on a computer-based instructional simulation (with either culturally congruent or incongruent visual design) of the Ideal Gas Laws in a pre/post test condition. Several users will also be randomly selected for a brief interview to further inform the impact of exposure to either local or foreign designs. Data will be collected from students at New York City schools with a large percentage of recent immigrants who will also be given measures of acculturation, executive function, and perceived usability.
Description: Considerable research has been done comparing various aspects of local versus global visual design. However, few studies have looked at the cognitive consequences of using Human-Computer Interfaces designed in one cultural environment and used in a learning context in a different cultural environment. The relatively new field of cultural psychology provides a theoretical basis from which to investigate the impact of symbolic mediation of cognitive processes, all the more relevant as the sequelae of globalization (reference) increases the cultural complexity of schools and learning environments. Prior work has established the influence of cultural factors in shaping perception and behavior and performance (reference), but more work is needed specific to cognitive impact in electronic instructional contexts.
